Whether you are putting together a family tree, are on a quest for ancestors, or are interested in learning stories about your family history, genealogy can be a lot of fun but sometimes overwhelming. There is a plethora of websites that offer services that you can subscribe to. If you decide to do this you will want to research them to see which is best for you. However, if you are looking for an informative website with overviews in several different areas of genealogy this website seems to have it all.
Food Recipes for a Large Group
Here are some easy recipes that are always a hit and will feed a large crowd. Check back often, we will change the recipes from time to time.
Large Quantity Coleslaw
Serves: 24
-2 packages prepared Coleslaw Mix
-2 cups shredded carrots
-1 cup finely chopped bell pepper
-1 cup finely chopped green onions
-1 cup finely cut celery
-Dressing-
-1 cup mayonnaise
-1 cup sour cream
-half and half
-1/4 cup vinegar
-1/4 cup sugar
-1 1/2 teaspoon salt
-1 1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds
In large bowl, combine vegtables and slaw mixes. Toss gently to blend together. In another bowl, combine remaining ingredients except half and half. When mixed, thin down with half and half to consistency you desire. *Note- 1 cup rasins could be added to this salad.
Apple Raspberry Tea
Serves: 20
In a 30 cup coffee maker add:
-1 gallon apple juice
-1 quart of water
-32 raspberry herbal tea bags
-16 regular tea bags
-2 teaspoons lemon juice
-1/2 cup of sugar
Run through a complete heating cycle in the coffee maker. Turn off coffee maker and let sit in the pot until cooled to room temperature. After rinsing out the apple juice's jars, pour the Apple Tea into the empty jars and a pitcher. Keep it cool and serve over ice.
Chicken a la King for 50
Serves: 50
- 6 pounds cooked chicken, diced
- 1 1/2 pound unsalted butter
- 1 pound all-purpose flour
- 3 quarts chicken stock
- 2 1/4 quarts whole milk, warmed
- Salt to taste
- 8 ounces Pimento - diced
- 1 pound chopped, sauteed mushrooms
To make the white sauce, melt the butter in a large saucepan, remove from the heat. Add the flour a little at a time whisking until smooth. Add salt then the warm milk gradually whisking constantly. Cook and stir until smooth and thick, about 15-20 minutes. The sauce has to come to a boil to thicken.
When the sauce is thick mix the chicken, mushrooms and pimentos into the sauce. Correct the seasoning if necessary. Serve with rice, noodles or puff pastry shells. Note: Some recipes call for chopped hard-cooked eggs to be added, optional.
Turkey salad for 50
Serves: 50
-10 cups diced cooked turkey
-8 cups thinly sliced celery
-8 cups seedless grapes
-18 hard-cooked eggs
-2 cups slivered almonds, toasted
-Dressing-
-1 quart salad dressing or mayonnaise
-1 pint heavy cream, whipped
-1/4 cup lemon juice
-1/4 cup sugar
-1 teaspoon salt
-1/2 teaspoon pepper
In a large bowl, combine turkey, celery, grapes, eggs and almonds. Combine dressing ingredients; mix till smooth. Pour over salad and stir gently.
Picnic Potato Salad For a Crowd
Serves: 30
-10 pounds potatoes
-1 pint mayonnaise
-1/2 cup prepared mustard
-1 hot pepper sauce
-2 cups onions- finely chopped
-1 cup celery- finely chopped
-8 hard boiled eggs- coarsely chopped
-1 cup parsley- finely chopped
-2 cups dill relish
-1 cup sweet relish
-2 cups black olives- chopped
-salt to taste
Peel potatoes. Boil until soft. Let cool then cut into large chunks. Combine the mayonnaise, mustard, hot sauce, and salt in a large bowl. Stir in potatoes and remaining ingredients, mix well.
Refrigerate until completely chilled. If salad seems a little too dry, add a little heavy cream until it reaches desired consistency.
Desserts
Double this recipe for larger groups -
"Everything but the Kitchen Sink" Bar Cookies
Makes 3 dozen bars
Ingredients:
1 package (18 ounces) refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough
1 jar (7 ounces) marshmallow creme
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1-1/2 cups toasted corn cereal
1/2 cup miniature candy-coated chocolate pieces
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350F. Grease 13X9-inch baking pan. Remove dough from wrapper according to package directions.
2. Press dough into prepared baking pan. Bake 13 minutes.
3. Remove baking pan from oven. Drop teaspoonfuls of marshmallow creme and peanut butter over hot cookie base.
4. Bake 1 minute. Carefully spread marshmallow creme and peanut butter over cookie base.
5. Sprinkle cereal and chocolate pieces over melted marshmallow and peanut butter mixture.
6. Bake 7 minutes. Cool completely on wire rack. Cut into 2-inch bars.
