Mountain Biking
Mountain Biking Information
Mountain Bike Capital USA
The Winter Park and Fraser Valley area is also referred to as "Mountain Bike Capital USA" and with good reason. The area has more than 600 miles of marked and mapped trails and they offer something for everyone. From the beginner just starting out to the expert rider there are single-track trails for all levels in Winter Park.
Winter Park Resort is a great place to ride as it transforms in the summer from a ski area to an impressive system of mountain bike trails. The views from the trails at the resort match the character of the trails themselves, as both are extraordinary. The high-speed Zephyr Express chairlift is equipped to carry bikes and can transport you and your bike to the top of the mountain, this allows for plenty of time and energy for lots of delightful downhill. If you are feeling ambitious go ahead and ride your bike up the mountain and let the downhill be your reward.
There are also many trails that wind throughout the valley that are also well worth exploring. The Official Mountain Bike and Trail Guide has a map of the trail system in the area as well as detailed descriptions of many routes that seem to be favorites. Pick up a guide from one of many retail locations in the valley and follow the routes that look good to you or make up a loop of your own.
Many of the trails start and end right in the town of Winter Park. This is especially nice since the downtown area has a very biker-friendly atmosphere. After a long ride it is nice to stop for a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants in town and sit on a deck that gazes at the majestic mountains that surround the town. Downtown Winter Park also has plenty of bike shops with rentals and all the gear you might need. When the day is done it is only a short ride back to Beaver Village Condos so you can rest up for the next day filled with more new trails to enjoy.
