Winter Park-Fraser Valley is nicknamed Mountain Bike Capital USA™ , deservedly so. More than 600 miles of marked and mapped trails offer a variety and challenge for every biking level and style. Winter Park Mountain Bike Trail Choices:
• Arapaho National Forest – The Arapaho National Forest surrounds Grand County and the Winter Park-Fraser
Valley. It offers hundreds of miles of excellent mountain biking trails. Generally, the trails are hilly and rocky,
winding through pine forests and open grass lands.
• Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort – In Tabernash, north of Winter Park, visit the highly regarded, environmentally
friendly Devil’s Thumb resort and spa. Mountain bikers may explore the resort’s 5,000 acres, meandering through
open meadows with vistas of the surrounding peaks or cruising pristine single track. Guided mountain bike tours
of the property are also available.
• Trestle Bike Park at Winter Park Resort – The fastest-growing bike park in the United States boasts 33 miles
of gravity-fed trails, including the Green World top-to-bottom trail. Growth continues this spring with the
construction of the Trestle Bike Skills Park being constructed at Barnum Park North. Trestle Bike Park offers
more than 175 features include table-top jumps, elevated stunts, drops and banked cruisers. The Olympia Express
and Zephyr Express lifts operate during the summer, offering access to trails from the top of the mountain. The
Park also offers special priced Women’s Wednesdays and Freeride Fridays packages.
• SolVista Bike Park at Granby Ranch – Just north of Winter Park, the SolVista Bike Park – Denver Westword’s
No.1 bike park for 2010 – offers 25 miles of trails that start from the base area. Complete with free bike wash and
a Fun in the Sun Recreation area for after your ride.
• YMCA of the Rockies/Snow Mountain Ranch – The ranch features 38 designated mountain bike trails on
rolling terrain for all levels of riding ability. Rentals available for mountain bikes and trikes. Head over to the
pump track to practice your skills.


2011 Winter Park-Fraser Valley Biking Events (please note, schedules subject to change) - June, July and August Summer Bike Events

• June 11: Epic Singletrack Hill Climb Kick-Off
This is the kick-off event for the Epic Singletrack Mountain Bike Series, the longest running cross-country series
in Colorado. The race is a 5.2 mile hill climb with a 2,062-foot elevation gain to the top of Mary Jane Ski Area.

• June 16: Ride the Rockies
More than 2,000 riders will stay overnight in Granby as part of a week-long bicycle tour across
Colorado. Now in its 26th year, Ride the Rockies cyclists will pedal over six mountain passes and
22,000 feet of vertical gain over the 412-mile course. Register at http://ridetherockies.com/registration.

• June 19-20: Rally at the Ranch – It’s all about endurance at this one-day, eight-stage race, of which riders will
be timed on four. Riders must ride the same bike for all stages. This ride is a trail rider’s dream!

• June 19-25: Bicycle Tour of Colorado
The Bicycle Tour of Colorado is a seven-day fully supported bicycle tour over Trail Ridge Road Loop in
the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Camping services, baggage transportation, route maps, road markings,
aid stations every 15-30 miles, bicycle repair services, and medical support are provided during your
week in Colorado. Check out the website for details and registration.

• June 25: Epic Singletrack X-C Super Loop
This is the second race in the Epic Singletrack Mountain Bike Series that features some of the best riders from
around the country. You don’t have to be a pro to participate, though!

• July 9: Epic Singletrack Valley Point-to-Point
The third race in the Epic Singletrack Mountain Series is a local’s favorite that has become one of the classic
courses of the series. The routes change up until the last minute, so monitor the website for details.

• July 9: Treadfest – This one-day event is the revamped version of the Fat Tire Classic, which has been held in
Winter Park for nearly 20 years. This family-friendly festival focuses on all things “bicycle” and is a pledge event
benefitting the National Sports Center for the Disabled and the Mile High Chapter of the American Red Cross.

• July 10: Epic Singletrack Super Downhill
It’s all downhill from here! Hold on to your hat (or helmet, as it were!) as cyclists from beginners to pros give it
their all on this downhill course. This is the fourth of the Epic Singletrack Mountain Bike Series.

• July 16-17: Mountain Bike Capital USA™ Weekend (www.playwinterpark.com) – To celebrate its more than
600 miles of marked and mapped trails, the Winter Park-Fraser Valley has designated a weekend to focus on
mountain biking that includes live music, food, games and, of course, all the mountain biking you can handle.
• July 28-31: 5th Annual Crankworx Colorado Freeride Mountain Bike Festival (www.crankworx.com) –
Some of the world’s best mountain bike athletes compete for more than $35,000 in prizes at Winter Park Resort’s
Trestle Bike Park, the fastest-growing bike park in the U.S. Spectators will enjoy great music, “sick” rides and a
world-class venue.
• July 30: Epic Singletrack Crankworks Colorado X-Country
This course – part of the Epic Singletrack Mountain Bike Series – is a favorite point-to-point that races back to
Winter Park Resort. Challenging climbs and fast descents spice up the route which includes an eclectic mix of
interconnected trails.

• Aug. 20: Epic Singletrack Mary Jane Circuit
Another of the Epic Singletrack Mountain Bike Series, this race covers some of the least-ridden trails in Winter
Park-Fraser Valley. It is a mountain top circuit featuring the longest sustained descent in the series, great
technical riding and some of the freshest single track in the valley.

• Aug. 27: Epic Singletrack King of the Rockies
The Epic Singletrack Mountain Bike Series saved the best for last. This is the race that started it all more than 20
years ago. This true Colorado classic is 25.8 miles of pure Winter Park-Fraser Valley fun!

• Sept. 10: Colorado Crooked Roubaix (www.coloradocrookedroubaix.com) – After a successful inaugural event
in 2010, The Crooked is back for its second year. This epic, 90-mile challenge ride traverses paved, graded-dirt
and gravel roads at elevations above 10,000 feet and is a true challenge to bike and rider.
