Free Cross Country TrailsIf you do not want to pay trail fees and enjoy the serenity of the forest, then you will want to ski in the Arapaho National Forest. Devil's Thumb Cross Country CenterThis wonderful nordic center is located north of Fraser on County Road 83. The center boasts 125k of groomed and maintained trails for striding, skating or snowshoeing. A 5k loop is set aside for pets and their owner's. Equipment rental, retail sales and lessons also available. Please call 970-726-8231 for more information. Snow Mountain Ranch/YMCA Nordic CenterThe YMCA offers more than 100k of groomed and maintained trails for all abilities. Trails are marked and designated for different ability levels - beginner, intermediate and expert. If you want to ski at night, the "Y" has a 2k lit trail. There are two separate areas where you can ski with your dog at no charge. Lessons, rentals and repair shop on site. Please call 970-5887-2152, ext. 4173. No Trail Fee at SolVista BasinSolVista Basin offers both downhill skiing/snowboarding and has 40k of maintained trails. Cross country ski while your friends or the rest of the family down hill. Access the trails from the base of SolVista or from the top of the Quick Draw lift. Maps and trail descriptions available at the ticket information desk in the base lodge. Rentals available. May purchase a $5.00 one way lift ticket to start your ski. Please contact 970-887-3384. Grand Lake Touring CenterThis center is located on the Grand Lake Golf Course off Hwy 34 on County Road 48. Ski on 38K of tracked and skating trails. Adjacent to the National forest which provides additional miles of terrain. For more information, please call 970-627-8008.
