New Years’ fireworks are planned for Grand Lake, Granby Ranch and Winter Park.
The ski resort and the town in Winter Park are bustling with activities like horsedrawn carriage rides, sledding and skating! Restaurants are offering special menus and entertainment and ready to help ring in the New Year.

It’s come to our attention through the local newspaper called the Sky Hi Daily newspaper, that there are several places to Cross Country ski & snowshoe with your favorite pooch! Since we have just recently brought into our family an active lab puppy, I found this to be quite an interesting and inspiring piece of information!
Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Tabernash has trails set aside for dogs and skiers plus they are offering this really cool course on Skijouring with your dog. The next one is Dec. 19- call them at 726-8231.
The YMCA of the Rockies, between Fraser and Granby also has ski & snowshoe loops that allow dogs. Call 887-2152.
And closest to us here in Winter Park is the large meadow located at Grand Park which is open dawn to dusk located next to the recreation center between Winter Park and Fraser and free!
While Zena and I won’t be in the skijouring clinic, where we would most certainly be tangled between harness and pine trees, we will be out taking advantage of some of these awesome trails!

It doesn’t cost a lot to do something fun in Winter Park! Getaway for a couple days and rock the Rocky Mountains! The “Play Free” promotion is awesome and easy; just log on to the Beaver Condos homepage and click on the “Play Free” button. Each night you stay, you get 2 free activity passes to a number of different activities in the valley. My fav’ is the cruiser bike rental from Grand Sports. My bike was mint green with a big ole basket on the front and white walled tires! We cruised the Fraser River Trail and had lunch at Rudi’s Deli washed down with a cold beer! It’s summer in the mountains like it should be!
Beaver Village Condos has great condo style lodging with an onsite pool and hot tubs. Yea, even a hot tub feels good in the summer up here- 50 degrees by 10pm!
There’s also a free concert in town on August 7 featuring Night Ranger. You know their songs..”Christian Sister”…”Don’t Tell me you Love me”…Cool stuff to do for free. C’mon up and stay with BVC!

Fat Tuesday Blues!
What a kudos to Winter Park Resort for scoring the 1st International two day on snow demo and free ride fest in conjunction with the Denver SIA tradeshow. SIA is all about snowsport retailers getting together to share new ideas, gear and equipment that we, the public, will soon get to enjoy! The Tradeshow, which used to take place in Vegas, is being held at the Denver Convention Center. Following the show, for the first time ever, is a demo and free ride fest for the attendees including Alpine, snowboard, tele, cross-country and snowshoe gear. In addition to Winter Park Resort, Devil’s Thumb Resort in nearby Tabernash will be the site for cross-country and snowshoe events. Winter Park stands to gain great notoriety from those in the snow business as we get to showcase our winter destination!

Winter Park Carnival is almost here! This fun event started as Mary Jane’s Birthday Bash several years ago. As you may or may not know, Mary Jane was the infamous entreprenuer who made her way in Winter Park as a prostitute in the late 1800′s. Her unique talents awarded her a special place in the history of Winter Park and she is notably referenced when locals say “they skied Mary Jane’s backside”!
These days, Winter Park celebrates the festivities as a carnival with parade, dog sled races, music at the park, campfire in the park, pancake breakfast, and so much more!
