There are a lot of activities also going on during the month of December. Saturday, December 3rd, begins with the DemoFest held at Winter Park Resort. This free event takes place at the base of Winter Park Resort giving the public an opportunity to demo this year’s ski and snowboard equipment. The event is free for everyone. You must be at least 18 to participate, have a valid driver’s license. If you are under 18 then you need to have parental consent. This is a great way to check out what is new in the ski and snowboard industry before buying skis or snowboards. Companies that will be participating include Fortitude, Head, Icelantic, K2 Skis, Liberty Skis, Ramp Sports, Salomon, Vertical Skis, Flow, K2 Snowboards and Never Summer.

Later in the evening, join the Winter Park Competition Center in celebrating the 29th Annual Chef’s Cup. This event is a benefit for the Winter Park Ski and Snowboard Foundation. Attendees will enjoy delicious food from local restaurants that will be sharing their house specialties. Beverage offerings include wine and beer. A live DJ will provide a lively atmosphere with some great music to dance and listen to as you enjoy the event. A silent auction will give attendees another opportunity to help support the cause.

A list of the Local menus to be featured at the 29th Annual Winter Park Chef’s club will include; Emilies/Back Country Grill; Deno’s Mountain Bistro; Devil’s Thumb Ranch; Tabernash Tavern; Fontenot’s Fresh Seafood Grill; Hernando’s Pizza and Pasta Pub; Maverick’s Grille; MPHS Pro Start; Showboat Drive By Pie & Catering; The Library (a new restaurant in town as of this summer) along with The Winter Park Sushi Bar; The Lodge at Sunspot; and Wild Horse Catering.

Fall is really a pleasant time of year to visit Winter Park, Colorado. The town is a bit quiet in anticipation of winter, with many of the locals just enjoying the last few warmer days before the snow sets in. This is time of year that we all slow down and either bike, hike or run those undiscovered trails that we may have noticed during the summer but did not want to take the time to explore. We also get prepped for the winter ski season, planning on which type of season pass to purchase, a pass at Winter Park Resort or a pass at either Snow Mountain Ranch or Devil’s Thumb (two cross country resorts in the area). A lot of us are deciding if we need to make a purchase of a new snowboard or a pair of skis. Many of the die-hard winter folk cannot wait until the snow starts flying, already counting the days until Winter Park Resort is open for business.

Visiting Winter Park in the fall is really pleasant for vacationers as well. Fall perhaps is one of the more relaxing times of year to visit which give visitors a true feel for the Winter Park area. The locals have a tendency to really slow down and take time to engage with one another, giving you an opportunity to get to know them. You will often find that you actually feel like a local too!

In the fall, some of the shops may close early, but the retail shops that are open often have great end of season deals on summer items and blow out specials on last winter’s gear or clothing. Sunday, August 15, 2011:

Monday, August 15, 2011: Pack your vacation items and gifts and get ready for the ride home.
