Winter Park New Years eve celebrations are a bit different from the type of celebrations you experience in a larger city or town. Instead of hanging out at a restaurant or bar waiting for the clock to strike 12, how about bringing in the New Year by celebrating on the ice! And we are not talking about a drink but rather ice skating!

Winter Park created this family friendly New Year event to showcase their new outdoor ice rink called the IceBox. This half covered indoor/outdoor venue is part of the Fraser Rec Center and ideal for celebrating the New Year. Participants are encouraged to skate around the rink, whirling and twirling are encouraged, just be sure to dress warmly. For the non skater, observing the skaters can be entertaining. Bring along some hot cocoa or hot coffee to keep toasty and invite your friends for conversation!

The skating starts at 7 pm and lasts until 9 pm and is free to everyone. At 9 pm a fireworks celebration begins to usher in the New Year and really get things heated up!

    Triple DHip and Colorado Freeride Festival | Bike Events in Winter Park

    The Triple DHip downhill is coming to Granby Ranch this weekend, July 14 – 15th. Serious mountain bikers get ready! This mountain bike event is set up in a 3G format bike stage race taking place over three type of events. In it’s second year, the Triple DHip promises big rewards to the winner with $800 for first place.  The first stage takes place on Cougar trail at 11 am on Saturday July 14. Later in the afternoon riders take off their bike chains and compete in the Avid Chainless Challenge taking place on Stranger trail.  Sunday, July 15th is the final race day with the event taking place at noon on Cheese It trail.  The awards ceremony will be held at 2 pm that day.

    Granby Ranch hopes that the visitors and competitors will take the opportunity, while at the event,to check out some of the new family friendly trails that Granby Ranch is developing.  The trails are designed so that novice riders can experience riding downhill without the technical features that are found on many of the bike trails.  For more information on the Triple DHip or to register call:  1-888-850-4615.  Interested in more bike events at Granby Ranch?  Be sure to check out the Enduro Series starting July 20 – August 17 every Friday.

    You have to check out the Colorado Freeride Festival coming to Winter Park Resort toward the end of the month of July on July 26 – 29, 2012.  The Mountain Bike Festival will have over $35,000.00 in prize money and showcase some of the best mountain bike riders in the nation.  Competitors will compete in a variety of events from slopestyle, enduro racing, cross country, trials and pond crossing events. The action is sure to be “in your face” and awesome!

    Winter Park June Events | Winter Park Resort Opens

    The town of Winter Park has been humming with activity so far this June. The locals that live here have been enjoying the early warm weather and for “Winter Park” that means the 70s! We all are eagerly anticipating the June events schedule which is packed full of things to do! Our summer season really seems to officially start when the town of Winter Park starts planting flowers in the flower beds that line the streets of town and keep it colorful and beautiful!

    June 16, 2012: Winter Park Resort Opens for the Summer
    The big kick off to June events occurs when Winter Park Resort opens for the summer. On June 16, the resort opened for business with the Hill Climb, part of the Epic Mountain Bike Series. Cross country mountain bike enthusiasts pushed hard with the 5.3 climb from the base of Winter Park Resort to the top of Parsenn Bowl.

    Epic Mountain Bike Series | Winter Park Mountain Bike Series

    Epic Mountain Bike Series returns again for the 20th year! Fondly known as the Winter Park Mountain Bike Series, the Epic Mountain Bike Series is a much beloved and well known Colorado mountain bike series of events that cater to beginner and advanced riders. Keep your eye out as some pro riders have been known to race in this series over the years!

    What makes this mountain bike series so special? It begins with the dedication of the Competition Center, the division at Winter Park Resort that manages all of the on mountain events/competitions and runs the Epic Mountain Bike Series. The crew at the Competition Center really loves the sport of mountain biking and ensures that the race courses are challenging, fun and safe. Over the years some of the race courses have changed slightly either due to weather or input from the competitors. Now who can say that other mountain bike race series will take competitor input into consideration when routing and designing a race course?

    The Epic Mountain Bike Series makes getting into the series easy for beginners to pros. The event is divided into categories by age, gender and ability level. Opportunity to move from one category to another is easy to do as competitors get better in their mountain biking and racing ability. Often after a summer of racing in one category and placing in the top 3 spots in that race category, competitors will move up to the next category.
