Mountain Biking

Mountain Bike Capital USA

A favorite among Colorado active locals, Winter Park is one of the state’s best-kept secrets. That’s especially true in the summertime, when the weather is perfect and Winter Park lodging is affordable and easy to find. As hordes of tourists flock west on I-70 to cool off at higher elevations (where temperatures typically hover around a comfortable 75 degrees), most go flying past Winter Park to bigger resorts with the rest of the crowd.

What they’re missing is a low-key resort with just as much to offer in terms of amazing scenery, perfect weather, and some of the best mountain biking in the state of Colorado. Not only does mountain biking in Winter Park offer one of the largest trail networks, a lot of it is chairlift accessible, which means sparing your lungs the agony of pedaling uphill at 9000 feet. It’s also some of the most diverse terrain you’ll find in Colorado, with over 600 miles of marked, mapped and user-friendly trails making the greater Winter Park/Frasier area one of the largest hubs for mountain biking in the Rocky Mountain West. That’s how Winter Park earned its title as “Mountain Bike Capital USA.”  From high mountain peaks to beautiful river valleys, single tracks to back country roads, there are opportunities for all ages and skill levels.

At the Winter Park Resort you will find 50 miles of single-track trails accessible via chair lifts and marked with signs identifying skill level. Once at the top of the lifts you may want to stop into the Sunspot for a quick bite to eat while enjoying the 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains. From there you can choose runs like the Upper Arapahoe, the resort’s downhill race course, or wind down The Long Trail for a 7-mile novice ride.

In the Fraser Valley where there’s a wide variety of Winter Park lodging, you’re virtually surrounded the Rocky Mountain wilderness with spectacular mountain views all around. The mountain bike trails follow babbling brooks, glide through wildflower meadows and trek up rugged mountains.

We package the All Day Trestle Bike Park Pass with Lodging. The all day Trestle Bike Pass allows unlimited use of the chairlift transport and trails at Winter Park Resort for only $29 per person. This saves you $5 off the window price! Tickets are not sold independent of lodging. Must reserve in advance. Vouchers will be provided at check-in. Call us at 800-824-8438 to reserve! (Pricing based on summer 2009).

All throughout the summer, there are races that are open to public and are available to many different skill levels. A majority of the races either start or end at Winter Park Resort, including the big, final race of the summer, The King of the Rockies.  Every June brings the Fat Tire Classic which is a fun event serving a good cause.

Repairs, rentals and shops are easy to find, whether you are at the resort, or downtown Winter Park. You can also find a wide variety of restaurants and bars, with food that is just as good as it is diverse. Even better, Winter Park lodging is centrally located so access to the trails is easy. And for the extreme rider, the Trestle Bike Park has park has everything from a screaming downhill run for the extremist to long networks for the cross country rider, and even trails for beginners. The downhill run is the most popular, drawing adrenaline junkies from all over the state with its gap jumps and snowboard-park like obstacles that you must ride over and around.
